What is the 'Rawest' Black Metal band you've heard?
When I say 'Raw', I mean lo-fi, ice cold, underground BM.
For me, it's probably the 'Ildjarn/Nidhogg' 'Norse' ep........
Twelve and a half minutes of sub zero brutality!
mmm...... all the early material of the great names of black metal can be considered raw......
BATHORY the pre-epic-viking discography
MAYHEM "deathcrush"
URUK-HAI / BURZUM first demos
EMPEROR "wrath of the tyrant" demo (I have a bootleg CD and it sounds really like a shit
)
OLD FUNERAL / IMMORTAL first demos
ENSLAVED "nema" and "yggdrasill" demos
SATYRICON "all evil" and "the forest is my throne" demos
DARKTHRONE first demos
ULVER first incarnation (the still black metal albums, all shitty sounding albums
)
All almost unlistenable material, with a sound recorded in the ass of some nordic troll
but with an evil spirit and an ice cold soul that are hard to find nowadays......

Usually, a band tries to get better and better with the passing time, in playing and sounding, right? ...... well ...... looking at the "modern" black metal bands, it seems that they were better when they were worse!
I don't believe that it should always be noisy to be raw... for me this is also raw

Absolutely Ivanargen! Horna are awesome
BM noise is only functional when it compliments the spirit of the music, otherwise it's just punk..........
I'm surprised to not see Pentagram or Antichrist by Gorgoroth. That was just raw and and evil as hell
