Angband is a Power Metal/ Progressive band, formed in 2004 in Tehran by Mahyar Dean a classically trained musician and author who is well known in metal world for writing two books about Death and Testament bands, specifically for his Death book in 2000 when Chuck Schuldiner (R.I.P) was still among us, “…the work and devotion you (Mahyar) have put toward this book is a true testament of your belie
f in the music as I am a fan of heavy metal as well.” Chuck wrote to Mahyar in a letter.
Angband was a Progressive metal/ Instrumental project first but when Mahyar met an outstanding tenor singer Ashkan Yazdani they decided to become a Power Metal/Progressive band. Then the Drummer/ Percussionist Ramin Rahimi joined the band who is a skilled musician.
Angband recorded their debut album “Rising from Apadana” in July 2007 and then signed a deal with Pure Steel Records of Germany. They are the first Metal band from Iran to sign with an International record company. “Rising from Apadana” released in August 29 2008 and had lots of posivite feedbacks.
M. Halaji , a young Bass player joined the band for recording the sophomore album entitled "Visions of the Seeker", It was originally set to release in Autumn of 2009 but because of a production problem it pushed back to 2010.
Collaborating with the legendary producer Achim Kohler (Primal Fear , Amon Amarth , Edguy) for the mixing and mastering process brought a good sound for the album so it finally released on October 29th 2010 and received well. Critics praised the album for amazing guitars, outstanding vocals and killer drums.
in 2011 M. Halaji left the band and replaced by a talented bass player Farshad Shokuhfar that Mahyar met a few months before in a concert. They started recording a new album for 2012 release named "Saved from the Truth" and as it was the case with the previous release the mixing and mastering done at Germany's indiscreet audio studio by Achim Kohler. The album released internationally on September 28th 2012 and received very positive reviews from music critics. "A real pleasure to listen to this talent” XXL Rock magazine describes the album.
